, and decided to make his endorsement in the presidential race between barack obama and john mccain that year, colin powell choosing obama for his endorsement was pretty much the last thing in the world the mccain campaign needed to hear. at that point, they were already becoming a really evident long shot. the race was starting to increasingly look like it wasn't even going to be close. and the colin powell endorsement just took the wind out of the mccain campaign's sails. john mccain responded to the endorsement that same day by going on fox news and sighing that, well, it wasn't all that much of a surprise. he at least, though, was able to say even if he did not have colin powell's endorsement, he did have endorsements from some other former republican secretaries of state. so at least he had those names to offer for counterbalance. the romney campaign's counterbalance tonight to them losing the colin powell endorsement this year is a whole different kind of counterbalance. >> you want to call me crazy, go to hell. call me crazy all you want. >> this morning, on cbs, republican former secr

in that state, 8.7% in september. the 2008 vote went to president obama with a net of 2.8% in that state. this talk about unemployment and the economy, brian crowley. how much of that is a factor in florida? guest: i don't think it was a coincidence that during the foreign policy debate, mitt romney kept bringing it back to the economy. most people turning in were not going to be paying that close attention to some of the foreign policy issues, and i don't think many \ voters go to the polls to vote based on what our decisions will be with china or cuba, for that matter. but they do vote with their pocketbooks. statewide unemployment in florida is 8.7%, but it is much higher in various pockets of florida. in some counties, as high as 12% unemployment. as we all know, that does not talk about the under-employed. the economy is still struggling in florida. we have signs of it getting better, but i heard a story that foreclosures in the state are the highest in the nation. there's a lot of economic pressure in the state. people are feeling the pain, and whoever sells the economic message be

at the new yorker magazine. they just endorsed barack obama and all the talk about the des moines register. people are overlooking the fact he bagged "the new york times" and the new yorker. hurricane sandy caused president obama and mitt romney to cancel events in virginia. this is important because with only nine days left until election day, it comes down to math and geography, the votes and the map. the map shrunk to seven swing states, virginia, iowa, new hampshire, wisconsin and ohio are all in play this cycle. president obama can count on 243 electoral votes that will go blue and romney can count on 106. with each having to get to 270 to win. the simple take away is the president's path to victory is significantly easier. polls show barack obama consistently ahead in iowa and wisconsin. if he holds on there, he won both last time, he just needs to win florida, ohio or virginia. he's behind in florida and a dead heat in virginia. he seems to be ahead in ohio. it's why the candidates are spending so much time in that state. obama has a 73.6% chance of winning. it's hard to imagine a r
